Evaluation of alcohol, substance and antidepressant drug use of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic

Aim: This study aimed to investigate how the mental tension and environmental conditions caused by COVID-19 pandemic affected alcohol substance use habits of university students changes in rates antidepressant drug for mood disorders due pandemic.Material Method: cross-sectional survey was conducted using an electronic completed Turkey between years 2021-2022. Our consisted a questionnaire prepared collect demographic information participants Bapirt-Alcohol/Substance scale used determine alcohol/substance addiction level. The survey, which took 5 minutes complete, randomly distributed students.Results: A total 641 participants, approximately 66% female 34% male, ages 18 41 were included study. mean dependence scores before during 0.91 1.35 found be 0.17 0.33. There significant difference average compared pre-pandemic period (for addiction: p=0.000; p=0.007). Students who perceived their income level as mostly low had significantly higher pre-COVID-19 (p=0.014). Compared period, residing dormitories/student houses (p=0.014 alcohol; p=0.001 substances).
